ABOUT US

The Door Store got its start in Greenwich Village in New York City in 1953, when a group of enterprising young friends purchased hundreds of wholesale hollow-core doors and outfitted them with legs to then sell as tables and desks.  After several years in New York, Natalia Karpovich moved home and established the Cambridge branch of the business.  The Door Store has become a Cambridge fixture, moving to its current location in 1971.

We no longer make tables out of doors, though we still field plenty of inquiries, customers are invited to stop by to see our large selection of table-tops, legs and bases, and browse our showroom for design ideas.  We love working through the details with customers to design their perfect piece of furniture, which we then build in our on-site workshop downstairs from the showroom.  In addition to desks, tables and shelving, we also carry a selection of chairs, baskets, window shades, lanterns and screens.

When you stop by, make sure to keep an eye out for Anna (the tortoiseshell cat) sunning on one of the baskets in the window display.
